Sable Starts Pumping & the Fight Continues

Last week, oil began flowing through the same pipeline that sprang a leak in 2015, and gave us the largest oil spill in the county since 1969. Using the Defense Production Act, Trump did an end run around California regulators, and gave a rogue company permission to start pumping and moving crude oil through a pipeline that had not yet gotten approval from the State Fire Marshal.

For activists that have spent years battling Sable, it was shocking news. Shocking and upsetting. Students who have been on the frontlines of the fight, turned their grief into action, and together with the Fearless Grandmothers, organized a protest in just a few days. Speakers, including students, Supervisor Hartmann, Assemblyman Hart, lawyers from the Environmental Defense Council, and Fearless Grandmother Maureen Ellenberger, all vowed to fight on. They admitted it’s hard,

It is, but it was helpful to be in community, and to lift up our voices in song thanks to Fearless Grandmother, Wendy Kanter, and also to members of the Singing Resistance group. Lifting our voices, lifted our spirits. We look forward to carrying on with all of you.
