October 18 – No Kings Rally

This administration’s record on climate is incredibly destructive. Trump’s Climate and Clean Energy Rollback Tracker chronicles the anti-climate measures taken in the last nine months. (Hint: it’s a very long list.) That’s one of the many reasons we will be turning out to say, “No Kings!”

Where: Alameda Park, 1400 Santa Barbara St.

When: Saturday, October 18 – 12:00 Noon

The rally at Alameda Park will be followed by a march to De La Guerra Plaza.

October 21 – Support Oil Phase Out in SB County

Last spring, Santa Barbara County Supervisors voted to ask staff to begin the process of developing an ordinance to phase out oil drilling.

They heard from dozens of people and organizations, the vast majority of whom supported an oil phase-out. More than 500 postcards signed during Earth Day at Sierra Club and other booths were delivered by Community Environmental Council.

Supervisors in their votes cited the devastating costs of climate disasters, such as the wildfires and Montecito mudslide that killed twenty-three people. They also pointed to the backsliding and climate denial under the Trump Administration and the health savings of phasing out oil pollution near people’s homes and near drinking water supplies.

County Supervisors will again vote on a specific set of actions to phase out oil drilling on Oct. 21.

Subject: Oct. 21 Board of Supervisors meeting: Support for Oil Phase Out

Body text: (Add a personal note)

Dear Supervisors,

Thank you for directing Santa Barbara County staff to draft an oil and gas phaseout ordinance. Let’s keep moving forward! Please prioritize completing the ordinance and amortization study.

I join the 50+ organizations calling for this phaseout to:

Fix the loophole in the County’s Climate Action Plan

Limit the most climate-damaging oil production

Improve air quality and health outcomes

Improve the safety of our drinking water supplies

Improve road safety and trucking accidents

Safeguard wildlife and endangered species

Prevent disasters

November 4 – Save the Date – Stop Sable Permit

Please mark your calendars for the November 4 SB County Board of Supervisors (BOS) hearing on Sable’s request to transfer County permits from Exxon for the Santa Ynez Unit.

This will be a south County hearing in the BOS hearing room in Santa Barbara, so we have a great opportunity to once again demonstrate our opposition to Sable’s reckless pipeline restart.

Stay tuned for more details.
